RISK AND VALUE MANAGEMENT

RISK MANAGEMENT

Thames Barrier Pier 6

All Project Parties benefit from JDPA’s Rapid Risksystem that not only identifies, assesses and rates risks and opportunities, but also develops effective treatment solutions.

Our workshop participants enjoy the fun of divergent thinking in the creative phases of risk identification and treatment, and also appreciate the harder convergent thinking phases of rating and judgment. The result is useable treatments assigned to responsible persons and a date by when.

VALUE MANAGEMENT

JDPA’s Value Management System allows all parties to consider both design and construction alternatives that satisfy both the functional and quality requirements, at the lowest possible cost. Also, John's estimating experience assists the valuation of alternatives.

ESTIMATING AND CONSTRUCTABILITY

ESTIMATING

JDPA provides estimates from concept bids to detailed first principle bids. Estimates include direct and indirect costs for both permanent and temporary works.

Clients benefit from John’s ability to analyse complex civil construction issues, develop practical methodology and quantify the resources (plant, labour, materials) and time for completion. Consideration is given to the existing environment, circumstances and constraints, as well as the opportunity of learning-curve efficiencies.

An Assumption Log is used to highlight risks for treatment and assist management decisions.

CONSTRUCTABILITY REVIEWS

John has developed construction methodology and sequencing for permanent and temporary works that has made many projects practical and economical to build.

JDPA can review construction plans and specifications and recommend practical changes for better cost, time and quality outcomes.

CONTRACTUAL RESOLUTION

DISPUTE PREVENTION

Early investment in JDPA’s Dispute Prevention service provides huge financial benefits for whole-of-life cost on a project. This starts the project right, keeps it right and avoids costly dispute resolution at project completion.

Key Focus areas:

  • The definition of Scope to provide clear objectives for all parties that results in "line of sight" focus on the completed project.
  • The acceptance of change being a normal part of a project’s journey and the adoption of a comprehensive procedure to identify, authorise, value and control changes.
  • A method of recording resources (plant, labour, materials) to assist monitoring progress, define cost to date and a reasonable valuation of changes.
  • JDPA’s system allows the "unknown knowns" to be uncovered; their causes to be identified to enable the project parties to engage in active problem solving.

CONTRACTUAL RESOLUTION

JDPA leave no stone unturned to identify and analyse potential breech events on contracts and the circumstances that cause such events.  Once the cause is established John's techniques assist the parties to reach a realistic valuation of the impact of changes.

Claims are prepared based on the facts within the constraints of the contract. Alternatively claims are reviewed for legitimacy, quantification and valuation.

CONTINUAL IMPROVEMENT

PROJECT "HEALTH" CHECKS

JDPA provide comprehensive "health" checks for your project to ensure your proposed resources and processes will function successfully. Based on previous experience, JDPA will identify early warning signs of issues to be addressed by the parties to prevent costly end-of-project disputes.

LEARNING CURVE

JDPA have analysed the productivity of construction crews on a number of major projects and the circumstances, culture and conditions under which they work. Clients benefit from knowing what to look for, what to do to improve production, and how to predict final cost and time outcomes.
